A patch is only as good as its edges
Almost every visible drywall repair fails in the same place: the feather. Compound built up too thick and sanded too narrow leaves a raised halo that catches light along the wall, and once the wall is painted a flat colour, that halo is the only thing anyone sees.
We repair by cutting the damage back to a clean square, backing it properly, setting it in multiple thin coats and feathering wide — then sanding in raking light, which is the only way to find a ridge before the paint does.

Why repairs still show after painting
Even a flat, well-sanded patch will show as a dull mark through new paint if it is not spot-primed. Fresh compound is far more porous than the surrounding painted surface, so it drinks the topcoat and dries at a different sheen — the effect painters call flashing.
Every repair we do is sealed and spot-primed before topcoats, and on large or numerous patches we prime the full wall rather than the patches alone. It is a small extra step that is the entire difference between an invisible repair and an obvious one.

Yes. Flat plaster walls are set and sanded to match the surrounding level, and where a wall carries a roll, spray or knockdown texture we replicate it across the patch before sealing so the repair reads as part of the wall.
